about

The title translates to ‘’The drum says it all’’.
This song is about how oral traditions (also drumming, dancing, and singing) have been able to survive in this colonized world that depicts everything that is not institutionalized, written, as something that is primitive, less important. It’s not, and it might even be more important because of it.

lyrics

el tambor lo dice

(Coro)
El tambor lo dice: hay que bailar
Los que no mueven, vamos a matar

(Verso 1)

¿Caro, barato? Lana triste
Mucha maña, mucho he say, she say

Oye viste, pillan nuestra cultura y arte,
Diciendo que somos pobres
¿Para qué contarle? Reír para no llorarle
Mejor celebrar y darle

(Coro)

(Verso 2)

A darle, darle, a festejar y tocarle
Celebrar lo diferente

Nadie puede argumentarle
Este ritmo es indiscutible
Fuente fuerte para que te pegue
Amor no es si no es que llores

(Coro)

FR

(Refrain)

Chaque fois que tu l’as vendue
Cher, pas cher, triste oseille
Beaucoup de manigances, beaucoup de he say, she say

As-tu vu?

(Refrain)

ENG

(Chorus)
The drum says it all, we must dance
Those who don’t move, we’re going to kill it

(Verse 1)
The drum says it all, the war and the love, I’ve done it
The fame and the hype, obviously I wanted it
I know now, it’s useless if it has no other goal
Stop looking for something that isn’t there, you heard

Tell me, which tradition did you come from?
Every time you sold it?
Expensive, cheap? Sad money
Too much shenanigans, too much he say, she say

Have you noticed, they’re stealing our culture and art,
Pretending that we are poor
Why bother telling you, laughing about it so we don’t cry
It’s better to celebrate it and get down to it

(Chorus)

(Verse 2)
The drum lives it all, telling legends from the Caribbean
Of the hidden that is not written
It’s useful to know what it doesn’t seem like
What does not belong to them

What hasn’t been exterminated completely
What runs in the blood and can’t be sold, hear me
Do it big and feel it
People are still fighting and still here

Pretending that we are innocents
In these times measuring clients, urgently
Dollars on the minds
Unconscious with our traditions

(Chorus)

(Verse 3)
The drum know it all, before my mouth opens
How the phrase will rhyme and finish
Saying already everything that I articulate
The party that I’m anticipating

Let’s stay awake, soon the moon will rise
Before the sun sets
Let’s party and play
Celebrate what is different

Nobody can argue this
This rhythm is indisputable
Strong source that hit’s you
It’s not real love if you don’t cry for it

(Chorus)
